Give your face a rest from soap
Don't wash your face ... cleanse it!
Despite
that most of us have been brought up to wash our faces with soap and
water I read recently about an actress that has never used soap on
her face in her life ! Soap used on the face can be extremely drying
and leads to flakiness and whilst it may be more economical you
should try giving your face a rest from soap for a while and just use
a quality facial cleanser. There are several reasons
Dermatologists advise us not to use soap on the face not least
because of the fragrances, detergents and deodorants they contain.
Soap may be more suitable for the rest of the body but generally
soaps are not formulated for the delicate skin on the face.
Facialcleansers generally have a low pH that is more acidic, this is
important because it avoids upsetting the skin's acid mantle and
eliminates the natural oils. Soaps are more alkaline based and
have a high pH and products high in alkaline irritate the facial
skin.
Facial
cleansing creams are more beneficial for dry skin as they help to
restore the skins moisture balance. Ensure that the facial
cleansing product that you are using is 100% fragrance free too as
most skin types will react adversely to fragrance additives. Facial cleansers have enough cleaning ability to remove the oily
build up from oily skin, but they will not dry out mature or
sensitive skin. Using cleansers on a regular basis will lead to a
really healthy looking and plumper skin tone.
