Look sharp with a 'NEW' razor style

www.noggis.co.uk

THE hair cut that is the big talk in the hair world is the trendy razor-cut bob. Is this a blast from the past or a particularly playful variation of the classic cut.
This trendy style was all over the 2014 fashion catwalks being show cased both by the models and as well as on stars watching and it made onto nearly every on line photo blog. So is it time to say goodbye to the long girlish flowing wavy hair and trade it in for an edgy razor-cut ? Why would you…well this haircut is not only easy to take care of but also very flexible.

What is the Razor-Cut Bob?
www.noggis.co.uk
Dianna Argon from TV series Glee
with Razor Cut bob
With a feather razor, or very sharp scissors, the hair strands are cut into a bob, framing the face and accentuating the contour. The process is much like the conventional step cut, light and feathery but here a clear line is created whilst keeping its playful look because of the varying lengths.

The razor-cut bob works well with fine to middle-thick hair and with every hair texture, whether straight or curly. Another plus for the razor-cut bob is that this trendy hair cut suits all face shapes, because we can tailor it to you.

Colour for the Trendy Razor-Bob?
Natural shades, ranging from sandy blond to honey brown are ideal for emphasising the lightness of this trendy haircut. Light brown also brings out the structure of razor-cut bobs and shows off the smart haircut to advantage.

How to Style a Razor-Cut Bob
One hair cut, many different looks: The razor-cut bob is easy to maintain and can be done in different hairdos. For a natural look as though you are coming from the beach, let your hair air dry after washing to give it a natural frizzy look. Do you want more volume? Then blow dry the top hair over the head or under a round brush. Hair wax can be used to accentuate a few strands or work the front part separately. Beach waves also work well on a face with a razor-cut bob. For an elegant evening look, use hair gel to make the top sleek with this trendy 2014 style, and use a straightening iron on the length.

Hair We Go Away

www.noggis.co.uk

Hair We Go Away

Hair loss is usually genetic or caused by Androgentic Alopecia, this happens to around 40% of both men and women and can be inherited form either of both parents.

In normal hair growth each hair follicle grows in cycles, the growth phase lasts around 2 or more years, during this phase, the hair is actively growing and lengthening, then the hair goes into a resting phase, lasting up to 3 months with hair feeling like its not growing and old hair falling out. Don't worry as this is normal after this the cycle repeats itself. On a healthy scalp on any given day about a 100 new hairs grow and the same number fall out maintaining an even balance of hair across the scalp.

www.noggis.co.uk

Hair loss in  Alopecia, it is caused by a natural hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This is present in all healthy men and women; DHT enters the cells of hair follicles, restricting the growth of healthy hair. Over time the follicle cell becomes weak, and will eventually only produce, short, fine hairs and the results start showing with thinning and balding becoming more visible. In women, the hair loss process often occurs around or after menopause, but it can begin in childhood. In men, hair loss can be at any age. This can happen as young as early teens when the hair line begins to recedes and around the crown area like a monk !. There are certain other  medical conditions that can lead to hair loss including thyroid irregularities, medications, infections, iron deficiency and extreme stress.

www.noggis.co.ukHere are a few NOGGI tips to look after your hair.

Rule number 1, TAKE care of your hair, stay away from poor quality shampoo as they contain a load of chemicals, they can not only harm your scalp but they can strip your hair of all the good stuff, also you need minimize the use of hot styling tools, i.e., straighteners, hair dryers, these weaken the proteins in your hair. If at all possible you also need to maintain your stress levels under control, meaning get an adequate amount of sleep, exercise regularly, make sure your diet is really healthy with plenty of  iron, protein, vitamin c, omega 3, biotin and zinc, all these vitamins will help keep your hair and body healthy.

Then again you could just come and see us for an intensive care treatment, sit back and relax.

Take out the stress out of your wedding day

Since your wedding day is planned to be the best day of your life it is only natural you want to look the best you possibly can.

www.facebook.com/noggis.hairdressingSo amongst all of your planning you need to pencil in an appointment with your hair stylist as choosing the hairstyle that suits you best and the special dress of the day cannot be taken more seriously. Your wedding day hairstyle, along with everything else, has to compliment your make up, dress and accessories.  Many brides to be will have a brand new style for their wedding day and you need to know well in advance as you don't want to switch at the last minute. Before you decide on any hairstyle, make sure you have chosen your dress, head dress or veil, work with your accessories, and of course your bridesmaids, and then you can choose the best style for the big day.  A good idea is to have a trial run ( girls only !) to help make your mind up and show up any flaws with your idea. Once this is all planned you can set your appointment and put a tick against one more box you can forget about.

www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggisGetting married abroad can have its own problems, in the Caribbean all brides are given a standard French Pleat so if you want something different take a picture of your rehearsal and take it to show the stylist. The best way is the easy way,  so keep it simple for the humid conditions and make it easier on the stylist there.

A good tip if you have your hair coloured, make sure you have it topped up 2 weeks before your wedding day making sure all the roots are concealed and the week before its good to have a final trim. Also you are advised not to use any hair products for the first time close to the day.  When prepping your hair it's sometimes best NOT to wash your hair on the day but to leave it unwashed for 24 hours to make it a lot easier to style as your hair has had chance to settle down.

At Noggis you can have all the team at your disposal for hair for the bride and maids and Sophia can do the make up and nails, all under one roof. Good luck for the future !!

How to clear the way for perfect skin

www.noggis.co.uk

How to clear the way for perfect skin

Not long ago we discussed the end of terms PROMS and how important it is to have good make up and a stunning hair do.
It's not just about what you wear, your hair style, the cars and the beauty treatments but young people often have skin issues and a lot of my clients ask me about their children and grand children who have skin problems that are causing them undue stress. Are there any skin treatments and skin care products on the market for teenagers ?. …well the short answer is YES.
Skin breakouts are the number one issue among teens.  It not only affects their skin but embarrasses them and lowers self-esteem.
WHAT CAUSES BREAKOUTS AMONG TEENS?
www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggis
REGIME Clear Start
Acne is generally part-genetic, part hormonal, but unlike adult acne, which tends to be inflammatory and related to stress, teenage acne is usually triggered by puberty and the introduction of new chemicals into the body.  Androgen hormones become more pronounced at this time which stimulate hair growth and sebaceous (oil) gland activity, which increases oil production.  That excess oil can mix with skin cells and get infected with bacteria, they swell and this becomes a breakout.  Pores can also become larger, skin can appear shinier and rougher, cheeks may feel more sensitive or look pink and of course, blackheads, whiteheads and inflamed lesions can appear on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders.
HOW DO YOU TREAT, CLEAR AND PREVENT BREAKOUTS AMONG TEENS?
Thorough cleansing, toning and moisturising, day and night, is a good regime for life to reduce excess sebum and reduce inflammation.
Through an easy-to-follow, 4 step regime that incorporates extra clearing products, Clear Start helps teens reveal their clearest level of skin.  Teens can also benefit by seeing me about a BREAKOUT CLEARING MICROZONE TREATMENT, designed to solve issues right on the spot.  From extracting blackheads to reducing redness, this treatment gets skin in shape fast - perfect for breakouts that occur at the most inconvenient times.Special price for the month of June £20 usual price £28.
If you have any concerns or queries regarding this treatment or any other treatments please feel free to contact me.  I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Summer in the sun, recipe for hair damage.

www.noggis.co.uk

Summer sun is no friend to your hair

Summer time, fresh lemonade, relaxing and sunbathing sounds idyllic BUT not for your hair which will be subjected harmful UV rays and heat from the sun which will break down the protective protein in your hair resulting any natural colours oxidising and giving a brassy hue to your hair.
This results in your hair being stripped of its radiant natural shine and leaving your hair damaged and brittle.

And if you are swimming, in the sea or a pool, you risk damaging your hair even more. As well as the UV rays, salt water can frizzle the follicles and zapps all moisture out of your hair. So here are a few summer hair tips to keep your locks glowing and healthy.

PROTECTION Soltan Head & Scalp Spray SPF30 from Boots
If your hair has a colour added to it be especially careful because the sun’s effects can be unpredictable and send it into a different colour altogether, so when in the sun either wear a hat or use plenty of conditioner or sun spray, items readily available in most chemists and especially Boots, which contain SPF protection for the colour and condition of your hair. To tame any unruly frizz, the main culprit being moisture in the water and humidity in the air, you need to invest in a good serum or finishing spritz.

The very opposite to dry frizzy hair is greasy locks as the heat promotes your sebaceous glands to churn out more of your body’s natural oil. The solution here is a dry shampoo to absorb the hair oil or you could dip a cotton ball into witch hazel (a natural astringent) which will dissolve the oil. Bathe your scalp along your parting and around your hairline and this will help slow down the release of sebum.

Otherwise sea water is good for you whereas the chlorine in pools is a different problem altogether, even sending your hair green !! The chorine creates a green film over the hair, which is going to be more obvious on lighter shades of hair, so if you are thinking about taking a dip, make sure you do a pre swim prep. Before you take a plunge, wet your hair thoroughly with tap water, this will stop your hair absorbing as much chlorinated water and it’s also a good idea to use and leave in conditioner. If you do end up a shade of green, for a fix, try using a clarifying shampoo. These shampoos have residue removing properties but if that doesn’t work for you can you try the natural remedy of vinegar and water. When swimming avoid using elastic bands with metal seams when putting your hair up instead opt for a soft scrunchy and when putting your hair up make sure it is done loosely as if it is too tight this can cause breakage.

Have a great Holiday

Treat dad to abit of pampering (Sunday June 15th)

www.noggis.co.uk

Happy Fathers Day Dad !!

I guess there is always the problem of what to buy Dad on Fathers Day (Sunday June 15th) . Buying for Mum always seems an awful lot easier. Well how about the idea of treating him to a Noggis Gentlemans Special pampering day to include a massage, pedicure , facial and hair cut.

Yes why not spoil him this Fathers Day with a relaxing escape away from all the noise and stress of family life. Firstly it’s upstairs to meet Sophie our fantastic beauty therapist at Beauty at Noggis.

www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggis for a deep tissue massage to relieve any aches and pains and muscle tension throughout the body. The massage will be extremely beneficial because it reaches the deepest layer of muscles, joints and tendons. The goal in deep tissue massage is to breakdown adhesions (tense areas within the muscle). Adhesions in the muscle are very important to address because they cause dull background pain, inflammation and limit motion of the muscles and joints.

Follow the massage with a gentleman’s facial, one of the best ways to take care of the skin. This includes cleansing, exfoliation and nourishment for the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion AND help his skin and appearance look younger !! The facial will be tailored to his skin type using only the very best Dermologica products. To complete the spa experience, finish up with a sports pedicure to firstly remove the dead skin cells on the bottom of the feet using a pumice stone, then toe nails are clipped and the cuticles are trimmed back. Also included in sports pedicure is leg care to include exfoliation, the application of moisturising creams and a brief leg massage. After Sophie its downstairs to visit Craig or Kieran in the Mens at Noggis Department for a shampoo and hair cut. This could be your usual style or maybe something different like a high precision textured messy hair cut? They will certainly make him look his very best! You can even include a traditional hot towel shave experience, luxurious lather, open razor and fresh cologne.

www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggis

Dad should now be ready for a nice drink with the family feeling great and looking sharp.

What is it with Men and Massages ??

www.facebook.com/noggis.hairdressing

What is it with Men and Massages ??

You don't have to be metrosexual to have a massage

www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggisWhat is it with men that when you mention massage they go all giggly. Nowadays more and more men are conscious about the way they look and it has become common practice and acceptable for men to visit salons.  In the media they speak of the 'metrosexual man' the suave, sleek-looking guy who is just as happy downing lager in a football stadium as he is having a massage, a facial and a good waxing.  The truth is men have been plucking, waxing, moisturising and styling themselves pretty much since the dawn of time.
Historians reckon that ancient Egyptian men spent hours every day removing every single hair from their bodies, applying blossom perfume to their skin and even drawing dark kohl eye-liner around their eye in a bid to enhance their appearances. Now we are not saying that that look would go down well on a night out on Bradshawgate but at Beauty at Noggi's we are proud to offer a wide range of grooming treatments for men in an attempt to keep up with this ever increasing demand and we have also put a few packages together which have been requested by our existing male clients.

JUST FOR HIM...

ULTIMATE UNWIND.... Back Neck and Shoulder Massage:- deep pressure massage relieving tension and stress followed by a Facial using the Dermalogica professional range for men. Usual price £55.00 Special £45

MALE GROOMING.... Will leave you feeling like a million dollars! Back treatment with a massage:- this treatment will start with a thorough cleansing of your back with steam which will unclog pores, flush out any impurities and remove excess oil, deep pressure massage which concentrates on relieving stress and tension in the back neck and shoulders, next you will benefit from a Dermalogica facial which consists of double cleanse, exfoliation, pressure point facia lmassage, mask and specific moisturiser.  To end the treatment a nail tidy where nails are clipped, cuticles removed and nails filed and buffed for a smooth finish.Usual price £75.00 Special £55

Also don't forget your back and chest wax using Australian Body Care Tea Tree Cream wax removes unwanted hairs leaving the skin looking naturally smooth and lasts up to 4 - 6 week depending on hair growth.Waxing is our most popular male treatment and not as painful as you think.  The benefits of waxing slows down hair growth and hairs grow back finer.

I look forward to seeing you soon in the salon if you have any queries please feel free to contact me.

Get lovely locks without the fuss

If it’s not one thing it’s being a mother !

As a busy mum it could be that the last thing on your mind is thinking about how your hair is looking today? Can you, should you look your best on the school run ?

Well the Guys and Gals at Noggis have put our heads together and come up with a few ideas that might help you looking at least half glamorous for that school run or a day at the office.

For longer hair try some loose waves, without the use of the waving wand? Firstly braid your hair the night before after a good shampoo, while your hair is still damp , make sure it is really tightly braided so you don’t get any frizz, then in the morning undo the braid and tease it gently and finish with some hairspray to complete the look, now you’re ready to rock the overnight waves. It’s not old fashioned to use rollers, these are still a great help for the working Mum and ideal when you’re doing your morning running around, feeding the children and getting everyone ready. Just put some rollers in first thing and it will work whilst you’re doing the morning chores, these are certain to give you some added waves and that little bit of added oomph! Then just before you leave home take them out, bit of hairspray and back combing and got you a quick simple volume fix.

Remember your never too old to wear your hair in a ponytail, effortless chic and very stylish again for this year and huge at the moment on the catwalk.

www.noggis.co.uk

For even more of quick fix why not just accessorize your hair with fancy Kirby grips or just a simple head band, play with a few different items and see what look you can come up with, but if style and faffing not for you why not just go for a new shorter style like the on trend Pixie Look. How about a Victoria Beckham style Bob, with the short cuts being so low maintenance you can have it sleek and flat for the day or messy and punky, ready for a night with your mates. The maintenance can always be a struggle with balancing everyday life as well, well if your pressed for time why not invested in some dry shampoo, this soak up the oils from your roots, saving you the entire shampoo and blow dry event, a additional benefit to dry shampoo, it will add texture and life to your hair. Have you ever thought of letting your hair air dry over night? This is good if you using an overnight leave in treatment, this way you get the full benefit of the product, as the heat from your styling tools are not being used and this let your hair reproduce it natural oils over night, making your hair look healthier and shiny. So if you need any advice on hair products or after a bit of relaxation, make time for you and pop down a speak to the team here at Noggis over a refreshment.

Celebs head straight for new styles

www.noggis.co.uk

Celebs head straight for new styles

The BIG bouncy blow dry is out, poker straight is well and truly in for spring and summer 2014. Straight, one length and blunt, is the choice for the stylists at the various fashion show weekends that have been happening during the past few months. You will have seen it on the red carpet being showcased by several well known celebrities.

This a great classic look, but you need the right tools for the job. The good news is we have just acquired the fabulous and latest innovation styling tongues, the C9 from Cloud 9. This is first automatic dual temperature straightening iron, offering almost instant heat with hottest temperature getting up to 195º! For finer hair or a softer style you reduce the heat down to 165º. The button-less design works by touching the plates together to fire them up so the C9 touch couldn’t be any more simpler to use?

www.facebook.com/noggis.hairdressing
TECHNOLOGY Cloud 9 Touch Straighteners
The straighteners are designed with a tapered barrel and unique 360º swivel cord supporting every movement you make and the tapered barrel is perfect for if you fancy a few curls for a change.

There are a few golden rules to follow before straightening takes place, freshly washed hair must be fully dry and if want a bit of volume why not dry your hair upside down?. Please make sure there is no moisture left in the hair as this could cause damage to hair shafts, creating brittle hair, splitting ends and many other problems. We would always use a heat protection spray and work the product throughout your hair to get a good level of protection. Section off your hair using clips, around a inch in width for the best and most even straight finish. Try not to repeatedly going over the section as that can cause frizz. Complete the treatment with a finishing sprtiz like a light weight shine spray or even a serum and work it though your hair. Only use a few drops as it goes a long way and as with any excess product lashuse an over load van give hair a dull and greasy finish as it will not be absorbed and sit on the surface.

If all that sounds like too much hard work then come and relax at our Bank Street salon and let the experts help whist you enjoy a cup of tea.

Best Night at the Proms

www.noggis.co.uk

 Best Night at the Proms

Look your best for the school prom

School PROMS started in the United States and are now very much a part of the UK senior school calendar. What started out as an end of school dance has now turned into a much more formal affair with students spending a small fortune on wonderful ballroom dresses for the girls and black tie evening attire for the boys. It is now being a major fixture in popular culture for high school students and even junior proms for younger students.
www.noggis.co.uk
With the prom season on the way it’s not just about what you wear as about how you look and a fantastic hairdo puts the cream on the cake. There are many hot styles for your prom hair this season but tradition is still with your hair being held UP for that magical night. A great hairstyle, perfect make up, nails and eyebrows for that amazing look on this very special occasion and all under one roof at Noggis..

One style is a beautiful big bun, wrapped in braids for a sophisticated and elegant look and very much on trend for this year. This style works well with diamond and heart shaped faces or if you have a square face shape or a heart shape consider extreme volume with soft curls. A big hit on fashion catwalks this year is the vintage look, great for shorter hair, so elegant and so retro and soft on the eye. A more simple but great look and you might be wearing a strapless, halter or one strap dress, think about the half up vixen look that can be in many styles, from loose waves to voluptuous volume and so much more, this style can be tailored to you. How about being a braided beauty, this is a great way of looking like you made a big effort, keeping it soft and minimal and add some accessories like flowers and go down the hippie chic route with a long flowing dress and this look suits all face shapes.

Don’t worry guys we have not forgotten about you and this years IN style for the gentlemen is short close sides and a heavy, weighty top, slicked back, wavy, curly and many other experiment ways, usually looking like it has plenty of volume on top.

Make Noggis your one stop shop with hair on the ground floor and nails, make up, eyebrows upstairs with Sophie.

Eyebrows have to be kept in trim!

www.noggis.co.uk

Eyebrows have to be kept in trim!

A modern Barber in the man’s world will give their client not only a good haircut but also tidy them up a bit. My Uncle Geoff who had hairs growing from everywhere was shocked to have ears , nose and his bushy eyebrows also trimmed and came out looking a decade younger. Well for the ladies that is not the easy answer and whilst there are some lucky individuals who were born with extremely tame eyebrows that never grow out of line, there are others, like me, that need a little extra help keeping their eyebrows under control. When it comes to shaping your eyebrows, you want them precise and symmetrical.  It is impossible to do this yourself even with tweezers and a mirror.

www.facebook.com/beautyatnoggisThe answer is having a professional wax your eyebrows that will give you a perfect shape to compliment your features.  Tweezing can take quite a long time, especially if you have a lot of hair to remove.  This is due to the fact that tweezers are made to remove one hair at a time.  You will also have to spend a few minutes each day combating new hairs that have grown in from the tweezing you did a week earlier.

Whilst 'waxing' your hairs away gives you a cleaner sharper finish and lasts up to 3 weeks.
Its not just women who benefit from nicely shaped eyebrows but men too can get rid of the mono brow where hairs meet in the middle.  It is important not to over shape a man's eyebrows, but a little clean up, like Uncle Geoff, can go a long way to smarten you up and look cleaner and sharper.
Balances facial features and frames the eyes
Visually lifts and opens the eye area to give you a more youthful look
If your eyebrows are very fair and look non-existent or you just want to go a shade darker then eyebrow tinting is for you.  Eyebrow tint will last up to 4 weeks.
For women who prefer not to leave home without her handy mascara this is the perfect solution.  Eye lash tinting is a process where your eye lashes are tinted to make them look darker.  Depending on your hair colour, you can achieve eye lash colour that best suits your complexion.  Eye lash tinting will benefit people that are sensitive to eye make-up, people who are active in sports (especially swimming) and people who have no time to apply eye make-up daily.  This treatment is also ideal for people who wear contact lenses because they don't have to suffer putting on mascara any longer.

If you have any queries or questions regarding any beauty treatments please do not hesitate to contact me.

Stuck for time…have a 20 minute Microzone

Stuck for time…have a 20 minute Microzone

In today’s busy and hectic times we cannot always afford the time it takes for a full treatment, usually 55 minutes.
Sometimes clients want a quick targeted solution to an immediate skin care concern, such as they are worried about a bothersome breakout, dull skin and tired eyes without having a full treatment. That is why we have introduced, in conjunction with cosmetic brand leader Dermalogica,  the Microzone treatments. This is a 20 minute, high-intensity version of the full treatment that takes place in one third of the time !

Microzone treatments are not intended to replace a full Dermalogica Skin treatment.  However, Microzone treatments are ideal for solving specific concerns, clients who are pushed for time, clients who are new to Dermalogica and clients who have never received a professional skin treatment.

For clients who want to resurface, smooth and brighten dull skin.  The Hydroxy acids and Retinol lift away dull surface cells while a nourishing cocktail of vitamins, peptides and botanical extracts help reverse visible signs of ageing leaving you with healthy glowing skin.

To treat multiple eye area concerns like dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles, loss of volume and firmness, with this advanced peptide eye treatment designed to gently exfoliate, rehydrate, smooth lines and boost new collagen while improving overall firmness and tone.

This supreme lip conditioning treatment smooths away flaky, damaged skin that can result from lip make-up and the environment.  By infusing firmings peptides and repairing vitamins into the area, it restores the delicate lip tissue to optimum health while smoothing fine lines and erasing the signs of ageing.

Helps hard working hands recover from dryness, ragged cuticles and signs of ageing, with this intense nourishing hand treatment.  The exfoliation removes dead skin cells and helps to reveal more even toned skin while moisture rich botanicals provide instant dry skin relief.

Microzone Blackhead Relief:- This deep cleansing, purifying treatment helps clear away blackheads, stubborn bumps and under surface congestion, banishing any future breakouts while delivering clean, clear smooth skin.

This treatment is a must for dry, dehydrated thirsty skin.  The deeply penetrating moisture surge treatment lifts away dulling skin debris to reveal plump new cells and helps to soften surface lines, leaving you dewy, fresh faced in a snap.

This treatment delivers cooling, soothing relief to sensitised and irritated skin.

As with all treatments a consultation will be carried out at the start of the treatment, where after you will be taken through to the candle lit treatment room for your specific Microzone Treatment and I can guarantee once you have finished your treatment you will leave the salon fresh and relaxed.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding any treatments please feel free to contact me.
